Does the new code 2005 have a ruling on ground up or down on outlets?
I need the code section if so..proving a point

The NEC does not have a requirement on this, however you must install all equipment according to any instructions included with the ilistingor labelling. If the manufacturer had their equipment listed with ground up or ground down, then you must install it that way. Also remember that no equipment (listed or not) is approved unless it is acceptable to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). The AHJ may require that receptacles be installed with a certain orientation.
Nothing is easy.

On even numbered dates, they are to be installed ground up, on odd dates, ground down.

During leap years this is reversed, except on leap day.

To keep all outlets oriented the same way, outlets can now only be installed on alternating days.

To accommodate this new requirement, manufacturers will be coming out with two new styles of outlets - one with the ground up, the other with the ground down. They are optional for this code cycle, but will be required in the next code cycle.

We're not going down this road again. The short answer is "no." I am closing this thread.

I need to work with the Webmaster to get the FAQs revised to include this question. We used to have a separate FAQ for each topic area, but that disappeared with the new Forum format.
