A/ on load change over (electrical interlock with bus coupler)
B/ off load change over (mechanical interlock)
C/ turret selector plugs (can only be changed with the breaker truck isolated)

Neat, thank you :) The ABB catalog mentioned something similar but was confused by it, now I understand.
 
Could you service one bus without taking out the other?

You could by throwing all the loads on to one set of bars. How this was done depended on the change over switch. With the off load and turret plug units it would cause disruption. There would have to be a damn good reason for an outage.

The Reyrolle book I have goes in to the method of extending a live switchboard, it’s heavy reading.
