Driven Ground Rod.

Guys I am working on a parking lot project where the inspector has insisted that a driven ground rod be installed at each light pole. We have provided a ground wire to each pole from the panel but, I am now wondering that if we install these rods will we need to run an additional ground electrode conductor to the building ground point ? If so would this be required whenever a ground rod was installed

Thanks, that's what I thought but I was concerned that somehow NEC 250.50 could be interpreted to mean that if a rod(s) were installed they could be considered as part of 250.52(5).

Did you ask the inspector why? (assuming it is not a job spec or a WRITTEN local code).

See article 250.54 auxiliary grounding electrodes they used to be called supplementary electrodes but they got confused with supplemental electrodes. In short they don't have to bond back to the building or any where else.
