Drop ceiling lighting

Do the fixtures in drop ceilings (flourescents or high hats) need to be independently supported and if so where does it say it?

Either secured to the grid or to the structural ceiling by their own tie wires (properly marked of course). Article 410.36(B). 2011 NEC.

Actually they need both and how many wires depends on the weight. You need to look at he suspended ceiling standards.

I thought independent support of fixtures by their own ceiling wires was a building code or a manufacturers spec.
