drop soffit in the corridor for running utility lines for data/electrical line

Hi Guys,

I design one mixed-use project this month.

From first floor to fifth floor, the building is used as residential units.

The architect wants to know the drop soffit requirement in the corridor for utility lines.

Is there any code requirement? Is 8" sufficient?

I really appreciate any suggestion.

Have a good night!

IMO it only needs to be big enough to fit in all of the stuff that you want concealed. That is a very common installation practice.

Thank you, I am a graduate electrical designer. If the floor height is 13', the minimum dropped soffit for all the MEP utility lines is 4'.

Is 4' sufficient?

Thanks for your suggestion and have a good day!
