DSL & phone failure

I would throw out a guess that either the DSL filter or the phone are getting some type of water damage.

If replacing/testing both does not fix the problem, I would suggest having them get a cordless phone, and just taking the handset into the bathroom when they aren't bathing or showering. Or getting equipment that is designed to be used in such an environment.

When we got DSL service at home, I ran a dedicated line from the demarc just for the modem, and had a whole-house filter installed for all of the existing home runs. We've had zero issues, and our connection regularly tests at around 3 Meg.
