DSL & phone failure

I would throw out a guess that either the DSL filter or the phone are getting some type of water damage.

If replacing/testing both does not fix the problem, I would suggest having them get a cordless phone, and just taking the handset into the bathroom when they aren't bathing or showering. Or getting equipment that is designed to be used in such an environment.

Oh, yeah. Check to see if they are plugged into a surge protector. I had one go bad one a regular phone line that caused my phones to completely stop working about every two weeks.

Phone Company checked out the phone lines etc and found everything OK. Tech told the customer that this particular nationwide electronics chain has a history of poor phones. His suggestion was to try a different brand.

When we got DSL service at home, I ran a dedicated line from the demarc just for the modem, and had a whole-house filter installed for all of the existing home runs. We've had zero issues, and our connection regularly tests at around 3 Meg.
