electrical raceways run underground are referred to, in the code, as Electrical DUCTS..

surely Duct-Seal would be appropriate to create a moisture/vapor seal in an Electrical DUCT.

definitely more appropriate for that than say, for the make-up of split bolt terminations...

which my Great Uncle Gene was a big fan of...

probably still is....

I have been out of town and did not get back until an hour ago. I have read all the info provided. The reason for the box was for a pull point and a place to seal the ducts where they came into the basement from out side. The configuration of the instillation was an overhead 7,000 v drop to a 480 V WYE transformer, then 5 parallel feeders to a 2000 amp MSB / disconnect. The box was not required for the 360 rule but new it would be extremely difficult to set a tugger up to pull into the enclosure for the MSB :mad:, the distance from the box to the MSB is probably 20 feet. According to my understanding of the code ducts are required to be sealed where a change of temperature will happen such as from indoors to outdoors etc.

I will agree that these are electrical ducts however I have never seen the words "electrical duct seal" written anyplace on the package much less any UL listing or any other info that would leave me to believe it is an appropriate article to use for sealing electrical ducts. Like Chris said, it realy doesn't do much to seal anything, but it certainly does make a mess. We came up with a procedure in the factory where I used to work for using duct seal. You would get two pounds of duct seal from stores and before sealing anything electrical up you must first pack 1 pound of duct seal up your ...., then procede with the rest of the install.:smile:

I use the following product (specify it at least) and have had no complaints, it is easy to install, works verry well, and if need be is easy to remove unlike Duct Seal that can be somewhat cumbersome when it comes time for removal. see the link below for the product information. Like I stated earlier I have specified this on many projects utility / medium voltage applications where we have underground ducts and cable vaults where water has been an issue and just to keep moisture water dirt and debris out.
