I have a single family home project with a air handling unit (AHU) that is over 2000CFM. Per the IBC Mechanical Code, AHU units over 2000CFM need a duct smoke detector in the supply duct. Does this also apply to a single family house?

I would say the IRC governs the installation and if the mechanical section doesn't require a duct detector, you don't need one.

For questions like this, you need to check the Scope section at the beginning of the codes. In this case, for the IMC, section 101.2, which has an exception to the scope for buildings subject to the IRC.

Good point. I don't see any requirements for a duct smoke detector in a supply or a return duct for a single family dwelling in the IRC...so I don't think it's required. Am I overlooking any requirements on duct detectors in the IRC, if not I won't install one?

If you look in the IRC, smoke alarms are covered in section 314. There is no mention of smoke alarms or detectors in air handling equipment. Likewise, NFPA 72 doesn't mention duct smoke detectors in the context of residential occupancies. Survey says: not required.
