the directions do indeed suck. for electrical, they had no directions other then with a quick connect cord when instead they included SJ assemblies

Yeah, they can be a pain in the a--, but if you carefully look over the directions you should be able to figure it out. I am a hvac tech by trade and have been installing these things for several years and I still run into one every now and then that I have to really take my time with. Depending on the brand and model, those things can be installed with the indoor and outdoor sections up to 169 feet apart, so you can use them just about anywhere ductwork is problem. Good luck with it.

About 3 weeks ago, my guys installed the wiring for a Mitsubishi's "Mr. Slim" ductless Air Conditioner.

The condensing unit had terminals marked S1, S2, & S3. Unbeknown to guy 2 is the fact that S1 & S2 are the 240 volt terminals and S2 & S3 are the 12-24volt DC terminals. S2 carries both AC and DC and he swapped S1 for S2 - no workie!

Going to be installing one of these soon, with the outdoor section 2 floors up on the roof (approx 50ft cable run, 100 ft + to walk), yes its meets manufacturers installation specs.. Would anyone like to comment on the need for a disconnecting means at the indoor section. All the one I have seen, have not had a disconnect for the indoor unit, wired directly to the outdoor section.

Well, I thought about that. "Do I need a disconnect for the inside"? So we installed a two pole switch on S1 and S2 before they land on the terminal board.

The guy who was running the whole project was trying finish the lighting in the room addition and was running late. So, I sent another jw who had finished his job early to help him. The 1st guy had sort of read the instructions and told the 2nd guy how to run 3 wires.

Way too much time is waisted trying figure out the problem. One more look at the instructions, change the two wires, and we got cooling!

The setup you are describing doesn't sound like any Mr Slim to me. More like a Fredrich or some other domestic brand. Mr Slims are actually darn good machines. We put 15 amp wall switches in for the fan coil units someplace in the same area in direct line of sight from the unit. They are accesable, but not readily accesable since in most times the switch gets mounted up above 5'-7" height. Inspectors here always look for the disconect switch, they never say boo about the height off the floor of the switch.
