Dumb Question...

Ideal Industries calls them Foam Carriers.

We use baggies, grocery bags as well. If the conduit is big enough, we'll drag a hand towel through to clean 'em out.

I used to just use ballons, blow em up to whatever size conduit.
Seems like a lot of extra work.

On a crusty pipe, putting some pink insulation in a shopping sack can make a bad day into a good day. :)

'preciate it ..again.

'preciate it ..again.

I forgot about calling them rats. I tried using part of a plastic bag (last night before I posted the OP). I have used that trick for years. I have also used all of the other "bag" tricks too. I will admit I've never heard of putting pink insulation in a Wal-Mart sack, nor have I heard of the ballon trick. Now I can't wait to try those out. I was trying to navigate a 1/2" PVC run with three 90's in it. I'd get to the middle one from both ways with my fish tape and the string and WHACK! nothing. I won't tell ya'll how long I spent by the time I got the wire in ( with the custiomer's help), who is also a good friend. What I will say is that I know we all have our bad days in the trade and that ranked as my 2nd worst wire pull. I'd given $100 for a 1/2" piston, mouse, rat or whatever you like to call them. Well, Thanks again for helping me figure something out. sparky723

I had a similar experience with 1/2" NMFC feeding a roof-top AC unit from the apartment below, with about a 20' horizontal offset between the panel and the pitch pocket.

I had no luck with a steel fishtape, so I tried my nylon tape. It wouldn't just push in, but I got it in by pushing in short, sharp pushes. It had less friction than the metal tape.

I also have a pair of fishtape ball ends, of two different sizes, which help prevent the fishtape hook from getting caugth at conduit ends. Here's a pic: http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:r73E7NY_SNr0tM:http://www.fishtapeanother90.com/roller-set-2.jpg

I dont know about the extra work, unless you have weak lungs ( still smoking? ) but if you leave them half inflated they work just like anything else.

1/2" pipe.

1/2" pipe.

What is the BEST trick anyone has used on 1/2" pipe? PVC,EMT,etc...?
By the way, the pipe mentioned in the OP has succesfully been pulled, wire terminated, & well pump is in operation. I thought it was funny the other night when I (we) were having so much trouble when I looked at the homeowner (and friend) and asked, "So how do ya'll know there is water there (at well location) ? Asking this, I was waiting for a witty remark because I was unsure how they 'check' for water. Anyway, he says; " We don't". I thought to myself, ' I just spent ALL this time and effort (realize I work alone) on this durned well and he doesnt know for sure if there is water down there.'
He then went through the story of how they tested for and found "some" water in that location... I thought (again to myself), 'Geez, a couple of bent coat hangers and I could find you some water.' ( And YES, divining rods do work.)

I just thought I'd throw that little side story in for some humorous reading.
Remember to reveal your trick on the 1/2" pipe.
