Duplex ceiling outlets in a shop...

Hello, when installing duplex ceiling outlets in rafters above workshop area, should outlets face parallel or perpendicular to floor? I believe conduit is not necessary as long as the romex closely follows the framing of the rafters, correct? Thank you. :confused:

How you orient the receptacles is a matter of choice. I would question the use of NM in the attic area where there is no ceiling installed. The temptation would be there to store objects above the ceiling joists that might damage it. JMO
