Duplex Receptacle on a Dimmer

Just saw a set of drawings where duplex receptacles were indicated to be controlled by a dimmer for floor lamps.

Something just dont seem right about that.

Generally not permitted unless you can comply with the new 2014 section 406.15.

The key is in the equipment. The dimmer / receptacle have to be a listed combination. . . look at these Lutron application notes for how one manufacturer has put together a solution for what your drawings are calling out.
 
That just goes to show they make something for everything if you just know about it.
