If I install a incandescent luminaire (fixture) on the ceiling and when the shelf is installed and I find that my fixture is 8" form the edge, If I put an fluorescent bulb in it am I in compliance???:-?

The reason to not do this because when the bulb burns out it could be replaced by an incandesant and the globe might not even go back on.This can be argued that the fixture is made to take either bulb and inspections are to be for what the job is at the time of inspection and not what it could be later.

ok, I won't do it. In fact, I won't even put in a closet, No I won't even put in a bedroom with a closet, No, Heck, I won't even build the house, She'd probably want indoor plumbing and electricity too. BUT, thank you guy's for helping.

My wife growed up without that new fangled indoor plumbing. Some of rich relatives where known to install a bulb in that outhouse and a few even had carpet.Dont think she would go for it anymore.

Inspector Cliff, welcome to the forum. :)

The UL listing sticker on the inside of the fixture determines the fixture type, IMO. All incandescent luminaires say "incandescent luminaire" inside them, end of story for me.
