Eaton ATS Support Contacts?

I have a customer with an existing 1600 amp 208 volt Eaton transfer switch. The catch is it is non-automatic, just works with switches and lamps. It looks like any other Eaton ATS, even the panel cutouts are there, just not auto. Red wires and all.

My Eaton supply house contacted Eaton who first said they only make switches up to 1200 amps. Then said it cannot be done, will void the UL listing.

Does anybody know a way to get ahold of somebody with a brain over there or is this the way they are going to be?

They were probably confused thinking it was a regular blade type transferswitch. Is this a motorized breaker type? I’ve installed a lot of those for Lowe’s. They are mechanically and electrically interlocked. The interlock cable is very susceptible to corrosion, and will stick causing the switch to not transfer, or return to utility. They added a small enclosure heater, but I don’t think it worked, as Lowes started replacing them with Square D switches when the Eaton’s quit working.

It is just like an ATS with a large solenoid contactor same as an ATS but the controls are switches that control the motion rather than having automatic controls. Otherwise it is the same.

They were building them at the Arden, NC plant. I’m thinking engineering is there too. I talked to an engineer that worked there many years ago about the EV charging stations on how to make them more installer friendly.

So Birken, what are you asking or trying to do, make the manual ATS automatic? If so I would get the control dwgs for both the manual and auto switches and just add the missing parts. It would help if you sent pics of the switch and nameplate (model, ser.#), I may have the dwgs.

Yes, exactly, the contactor and such is the same as an ATS, just that the controls are knobs and switches instead of a controller.

I don't know where to look for drawings and such on one of these. Not very popular in this area. What I need first of all is just a budgetary figure to give the customer so they can decide based on that. Should I contact you privately?

Thank you for the offer to help.
