eave outlets

I have been searching your forums, and since I cant find a direct answer (to answer my stubborn client), I'll ask directly:
Do outside eave outlets (christmas outlets under the soffit) need to be GFCI protected or is there an exception for them because of their height? I was under the impression the ALL outside outlets need GFCI's except de-icing equip.

210.8(A)(3), if there is no exception worded in the section or the exceptions to the section, then there is no exception.

You are correct.
210.8(A)(3) the exception allowing the de-icing equip.

thank you...its nice to hear it from professionals who arent thinking by 1955 standards and codes. Its silly to think christmas lights (of all of the things to plug in) shouldnt be gfci protected.
