EGC in PVC conduit to plasic light

Ya but not all of them are about grounding, and grounded. So it should be even easier.

Just curious on the OP, is there an EGC to the switch?

No there is not. Like I said in original post, I can find no code that requires an EGC for this. I have other electricians quoting 250.4 (A) (5), Effective ground fault path as the code that makes an EGC required to be laid in the PVC in case of a ground fault and my position is that you cannot have a ground fault in PVC, only a short circuit. They said what if someone was to cut into the pipe? I told them that would be a short circuit and the breaker will trip without an EGC. So I am standing firm in my conviction that the code does not require it as per 250.4 (A) (1) (2) & (3). The PVC is not a conducting surface and neither is the plastic light. I have read this code book front to back over 100 times in the past two years while inspecting in Iraq and Afghanistan. I know of no code reference and wondered if anybody did? You all are so helpful and I thank you.

I thought I should mention about the switch, it too has a PVC run to it, in a plastic box. The switch is plastic and has no ground attachment screw and it has a plastic face plate.

One way to look at this question, is to post the code section(s) that require the EGC installation in regards to the OP's thread.

There are only 822 pages in the '08 NEC, it should not take toooooooooo long to find it. ;)

Hey guys, I found what I was looking for. In the raceway section for all types of raceways article XXX.60 explains it. You need to run an EGC only if there is equipment to bond. Since I do not have to bond a plastic light it does not need an EGC in the PVC. Article 352.60 for PVC. ENT is 362.60, NUCC is 354.60, RTRC is 355.60, Etc. Thank you for all the help everyone.
