i asked this question a awhile back but i was not ever able to find a response. I have an electric gate which only has one 3/4" conduit ran out to the motor controller (under asphalt) the owner is wanting to also have a data line ran in the same conduit for a future auto dialer. is it possible to use this conduit for both motor power and the class 2 wiring?

Re: electric gate and class 2 wiring

Why would it be a data line? These things are just phones and should only need one pair.

You should be able to use Class 1 wiring for this and pull it into the same conduit. I would be concerned about interference from the gate power conductors though. Best you could do is get some 18ga TFFN twisted up into a pair (to minimize interference) from Clifford and see how that works. If not start diggng.

Re: electric gate and class 2 wiring

The class 2 devices may not be rated or listed for use as class 1 devices. Generally, class 2 and class 3 power supplies can be used as class 1 if totally enclosed in a metal cabinet.

The communication circuit would have to solidly grounded somewhere and have a telephone protector block where it enters the building unles the entire outdoor portion of the circuit is in galvanized rigid conduit.
