If my employer asks me to change a light switch I don't have a problem. But he has asked me to change 240v breakers and I don't like to. Is there a standard, ordinance, law or anything available on line that I can show him that says I cannot do that. I called OSHA but they said they did not regulate that. They sent me to the NEC website but I don't know where to start. Can someone quote me or lead me to somewhere that I can show him to prove to him this is not right? I think I posted this in the wrong place first...Sorry Thanks

Electrical licensing requirements are generally imposed by state governments (although sometimes it's done at the county or city level.) Here's a link to the licensing requirements for the state of Oregon. I don't know if there's a list somewhere of similar information from other jurisdictions.

It also depends on the kind of work you do. I work for an RV manufacturer. The company is licensed by the state, but the individual workers are not licensed.

State electrical board

State electrical board

In Minnesota the State Electrical Board has jurisdiction. AHJ. The just moved into the Department of Labor.

Your employer CAN"T force you to do something you don't feel safe doing, by law!

Your profile says you are an instructor. Instructor of what? Are you licensed? Need more info. Ouside of that I'm with Chevy, yet I drive a Ford:)

He "asked" you to do it. Your accepting of the task is voluntary. If you said that you can/will do it, than you are implying experience.

Is there a standard, ordinance, law or anything available on line that I can show him that says I cannot do that.

Is he sending you out on your own to change the breaker? If he or a journeyman is supervising you, than at some point you should be expected to do the task. Apprentices are to be under supervision of a license holder here, but, the amount of supervision can depend upon the ability of the apprentice.

Start with the department in your state that regulates licenses. What are their rules. But, how bad do you want this job?
