Hi guys. Just a quick one.
Are 220V 30 amp electric pool heaters required to have a fireman's switch like its gas fired cousin? If so I have never seen a 220V one, or is breaking one pole sufficient using a standard timer with the fireman's switch?

I say no .

680.9 Electric Pool Water Heaters.
All electric pool water heaters shall have the heating elements subdivided into loads not exceeding 48 amperes and protected at not over 60 amperes. The ampacity of the branch-circuit conductors and the rating or setting of overcurrent protective devices shall not be less than 125 percent of the total nameplate-rated load.

It sure is a heat pump. 230v 14 amps 30 amp breaker. Srry , guess I should have said that before .All I have is a picture of it no tech info other than what I was told. Ive never done one and was curious about it, got a customer asking me.Thx guys.

I am having to install a time clock with a fireman switch even though there is a flow switch and the directions were of the either or type... 400,000 btu heater with a 2'' gas pipe feeding it ,..has a lot of residual heat .when the water stops this baby gets a bit grumbly !!
 
they don't have to have a gfci and i use a regular heat pump disconnect beside the unit. It also needs to be bonded to the equipotential grid.
