During the cold dry Ohio winters, antennas often collect a charge from blowing wind/snow. It is a common practice here to make sure that your antenna is grounded when not in use.

I've heard from a number of hams that have had arcing happen in their tuner, when they have left their antenna ungrounded, during heavy wind/snow conditions. Am I suprised that a similar thing happens with rain? No. But I can't say that I've seen it, because when it rains here, it also usually T-storms, and the antenna gets grounded anyway.
