Does the code permit doing one of these (an electric Runtal towel-warmer radiator) adjacent a garden tub (no shower, just a tub), in a location where you could be in the tub and touch the radiator?

Re: Electric Runtal radiator

Interesting question. I have an electric towel warmer near my tub/shower at home. It is a plug in, and the receptacle is about 6 feet from the edge of the tub. But I can reach the towel warmer from the tub. Is this the same situation you are describing, except for being indoor versus outdoor? Are you talking about a hard-wired component? For my part, I am not certain whether this would be considered under the Article 600 (swimming pools) rules, or under some other section.

Here is the design. A bathroom bumpout is 6'-6" wide by 4' deep. Centered in a tub deck that is rimmed by the bumpout, is a 3' x 5' soaking tub. Windows are adjacent the tub on the 6'-6" wall. The proposed location for the hardwired Runtal (24 wide x 43 high) is on one of the bumpout endwalls, which is of course adjacent the tub deck, and the unit can be touched by someone in the tub. On a nearby interior wall, out of reach from the tub, we propose to mount the programmable thermostat control for the Runtal.

A swich or a receptacle can be adjacent to a tub in a bathroom as long as it doesn`t encroach in the tub space and gfci`d the recep that is.
