I am nearing completion of wiring up a museum for my employer. It does have a small attached kitchen and dining room for dwelling - to be used by in-keeper.
After measuring outside dimensions for museum, I got 2,298.7 sq ft I multiplied this by 1.6 VA for museums Table 220.12 which note states includes 25% increase for continuous lighting loads.
To find number of required 15 ampere branch circuits:
120E single phase 2,298ft x 1.6 VA I got a total connected lighting load of 3,677.9 VA
Divided by 15 i x 120 e not sure if I should Have divided by 240?) 1800 va or 3,677.9 / 1800 to get 2 branch circuits at 15 amperes for lighting. I did not add 1.25% continuous load because book table notes 220.12 said it was included in 1.6 VA figure for museums
For receptacle, branch circuits I placed 38 receptacles which I chose to space within 6 ft of any point on a wall or a wall 2 feet long (although not required for museums).
The single gangs yoke receptacles at 180VA X 38 receptacles gave me a total connected load of 6840VA and since this was under 10,000 va table 220.44 I kept this at 100%
To find how many receptacle branch circuits I divided 6840VA total connected load by 20 i x 120 e or 2400 va which yielded 2.85 circuits or 3 of 20 ampere branch circuits at 120 volts for receptacles
Lastly, for “commercial?” load calculations, I came across section 600.5 A Which states I need an additional isolated (With no other receptacles) “20 ampere branch circuit at the entrance to each tenant space for sign or outline lighting system use.”
There will possible be two ways to enter museum and the inclusion of the wording “tenants” confuses what I need to do. I do have an outside GFCI receptacle at front and back entrance porches but they are tied into interior receptacle branch circuits so I wouldn’t consider counting these as meeting the sign receptacle requirements.
I’m not sure if I’ll need a receptacle at both ends of museum for a sign since there really isn’t supposed to be many “tenants?”
(There will be no lanundry. The “dwelling/ kitchen” area section is a mere 164.35 ft). I have 2 of 20 ampere Circuits for kitchen and dining room. Didn’t bother to make an additional 3rd branch circuit for just 164 sq ft.
I’m hoping my work is ok. Any suggestions on sign receptacle or anything else I forgot? Thanks
