Electrical Box Under Tub P-trap

The location I need to install a ceiling fan is directly below tub P-Trap.

Although a bad situation, does anyone know if installing a electrical box directly below a tub P-trap creates any code violations? The only section of code I can find that is somewhat related but doesn't apply to this situation is 110.26.

Any suggestions for devices/systems to place in between the electrical box and tub P-Trap to channel water away from entering the electrical box and fan in the event the P-Trap leaks?
 
It's not a code issue so personally I wouldn't worry about it. You might be able to install some type of waterproof membrane above the box if you really think that it may be a problem. I really don't see those traps ever leaking.

Thanks for replying. I was most concerned with code compliance than the P-Trap leaking and didn't know if a defined protection mechanism was required to channel water away. I guess that's why I couldn't find anything in my search.

Again, thanks for the help.
 
Probably a bigger risk than a leak is a homeowner dismantling the trap to clear a clogged drain.

A pro will properly capture the spillage.
 
Is the trap below the structural ceiling? If it is, then it cannot be directly above the panel per 110.26(E).
 
FWIW guys. It shouldn't ever be the trap that leaks. The most likely spot would be the part that the tub stopper is in.....you guys might call it something like a drain flange. It should be sealed with plumbers putty but some guys are lazy/ignorant and use caulking. That is going to leak given enough time.

I used to be a journeyman plumber back in the 70/80's. So you know...if you ever have any plumbing questions:)
