Hi Guys,

I would like to replace the cover plate on my upstairs (3-Way) switch so it matches the one down stairs. I believe the main issue is the electrical box which is situated low in the cutout. In addition to some wall material on the top part peeling away when the old cover plate was removed. I’m going to let the attached pictures do the talking and don’t want to confuse anyone.

A larger wall plate was the easy fix. Any insight on what needs to be done would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

-Rob

The only legal way to deal with this is to mud in tight to the box as the code requires. Sand it down, re-paint and then use any cover you like.

Agreed. You need a wall repair, not an electrical repair.

I do both. I'm in Richmond. Where in VA are you?

Thanks for the offer. I was not aware the box is stuck inside and don’t want to mess around with it.

I look forward to the wall repair prior to testing my skills in this area. 🤞

Cheers.
