Hey guys,

NEC 230 States "Overhead service conductors must maintain a clearance of 3 feet from doors, porches, balconies, ladders, stairs, fire escapes, windows that open, or similar locations [230.9]. However, you don't have to maintain the 3-foot distance for conductors that run above a window."

From the attached picture, I am planning to run 4 sets of 3" IMC conduits between the 2 glass windows marked, which comes from the roof. Does NEC 230 apply for this? or is there any other code that calls for such clearances?

Thanks

If the conductors are inside a raceway, you're fine. It's when the conductors are out in the open, such as the overhead drop or drip loops, that you need to be concerned with.

Exactly, the section states overhead conductors not raceways. 35 years, or so, ago I had an inspector red tag my job because the meter base was mounted next to a window. I called him up and he checked with his bosses and realized his error. My point is many people make this type of error.

Glad ken got it right for you
