50-year old Zensco 200-amp main breaker panel. Need to replace it. It is located in a bathroom. Kitchen cabinets are on the other side of the bathroom wall. Directly below the bathroom is the garage. Is there any code preventing me from taking the guts out of Zensco panel and use that box to make splices to extend all conductors to install new panel into the garage below?

One thing I often see overlooked when this is done, although to no ill effect, is wire derating for more than 3 conductors in a conduit.

Using a pile of NM cables would be less confusing, even if more labor intensive, if a conduit is even an option.
