I'm new to estimating but extremely curious. How can you determine how many lights you would put/install in an area by the square footage of the room? If all the lights were the same type. Is there any equation for this?

Re: Electrical Square ft. Takeoff

The number of fixtures depends on many things including type of light fixture, type of occupancy, ceiling height, amount of light wanted, etc.
It is difficult to guess without knowing more.

I CAN NAME THAT FIGURE IN...use square foot figure to double check not as a primary estimating tool. When in doubt use the 1/3 1/3 1/3 method. 1/3 profit 1/3 materials 1/3 labor. Don't forget to add set up and tear down costs either.

1 recessed light per 64 sq feet is a min that we start with when we do dens & basement renovations. Specific use of the space or irregularities in the ceiling (ie ducts that are framed out) usually result in a few more lights.
