I'm sure have heard the term "rough in". Where did that come from? Also it's rough in and NOT roughing, correct?

Rough, meaning not finished, so rough-in is the process of laying the ground work to get it ready for finishing.

I would... to me "rough in" is having all EMT, wire, and anything else in place, but not yet started on the device terminations.

Sometimes the wire is pulled later, but if it is, you need to add at least 50% to your wire pulling time. Not being able to walk through the walls or to see the conduit routing adds additional labor hours.
