electrical trunking, taping power from

the architect has specified an electrical trunking system to which industrial wrap-around lighting fixtures are intermittently attached. The intention is for the trunk, in addition to running cable, within divided compartments, for other purposed, to provide power to the fixtures. The trunk has no factory knockouts.

The manufacturer is telling us that if we punch knock-outs in the trunk, to get power to the fixtures (using a chase nipple, bushing, et. al.), this will void the UL rating.

On one level, I get it: a punched knock-out modifies the enclosure...
On another level, we punch K.O.s in grey boxes... all the time !?)

No matter... I've got trunk, and I've got fixtures, and the fixtures mount to the trunk, and I need to get power to them... and I'm standing here scratching my head.

ANY THOUGHTS would be greatly appreciated in advance,

not certain what you mean by lighting tap box...?
The runs are tandem mounted housings, nominally 10ft in length each, with no provisions for a knockout anywhere along their length.

I'm with others, what is this "trunk"? What NEC section applies to it? Sounds like maybe surface metal raceway or maybe wireways?
