Yeah! Have you seen any of that new flat conductor "tape" junk they have come out with?bradleyelectric said:we ought to just run everything exposed from now on. Protection from physical damage isn't everything its cracked up to be anyway.
You mean type FCC, that's been out since at least the 70's?ItsHot said:Yeah! Have you seen any of that new flat conductor "tape" junk they have come out with?
Typically, it's only used in offices with those carpet squares that you can just pick up. It seems to be durable stuff, but each "system" is manufacturer specific. I don't see enough of it to recognize the manufacturer, so that's a big hurdle right off the bat when you have to do MAC work on it. I think that AMP, T&B, and Hubbell are the only people still making it.ItsHot said:How can the flat tape conductor junk even get a ul listing? No wonder we are going to have complete afci coverage!
i never seen that stuff before. can you justrun it under the carpet without conduit or anything? can you link me to there website?mdshunk said:You mean type FCC, that's been out since at least the 70's?
It's way overrated. Just use this dandy stuff, which is also dual rated as THHN:
Sorry, didn't intend to dupe anyone. That's PhotoShopped. I sorta thought it would be obvious. Sorry again.electricalperson said:i never seen that stuff before. can you justrun it under the carpet without conduit or anything? can you link me to there website?

Last I heard, there was no UL listing on that stuff yet. Is that still the case? It's been a couple years since I've read anything about it. I think they were shooting for it to be part of a listed "system" and not a wiring method.peter d said:I think we're talking about apples and oranges here:
This is Flat Wire:
It's designed to be installed just like the "tape and mud" process to finish sheetrock.
Interesting stuf, in any event. I can only hope that it is a miserable market failure.ItsHot said:Thanks for getting me straight Peter. Flat wire is what I meant to say. I talk a lot,but don't say much!
I think the drywallers will help with that!mdshunk said:Interesting stuf, in any event. I can only hope that it is a miserable market failure.
i hate customers. a lot of them judge a book by its cover. i tend to stutter when i talk and let me tell you how many people think im stupid because of it. they dont think im so stupid when i hand them a bill76nemo said:Shoot, why even run insulated? Run her bare with a big flashing light that says, "Do Not Touch!"
Ohhh, the joy of some customers! "He's got long hair and a beard, make sure everything is locked up tight honey!!!" "Is he still in the basement? "There's nothing of value down there, is there?"
Have I honestly heard that, no, but it was clear as day. Yes Maam, I just pocketed your furnace, that's why I wore baggy pants, so you wouldn't see it!
Jeez Loueaze:roll:
