I was down that way (Osceola) a couple of times this summer. Lots of wind turbines set up and running. I think that wind farm in Martinsburg (?) must have 200+ towers...You'll probably get wind energy from the grid. You must be a snow-mobile-er...that area got over 12 feet of snow in one week last year....

I am in Martinsburg, and could almost throw a rock at the closest turbine. There are 198 turbines, it is the largest wind farm this side of the Mississippi, and I cannot get power any power at my site. I am told that the turbines back up the Ni-Mo lines heading south. I plan on installing my own turbine in the spring.

Duckman, Where are you at in Lowville? I am originally from there, living in Virginia now. All my family is still their. There are some excellent electricians from upstate NY, but their is also no licencing requirments outside of city limits, so you get a lot of trunk slammers doing work for nothing on the weekends their not working at the Mill.

I bought some acerage in Martinsburg last year (Graves Road). So far my absolute safest bet has been to get a referal from the inspectors. Which in itself is pretty weird to me. In Mass they are so afraid of ethics concerns, they will not refer or comment on a tradesman.

Speaking of Wind Turbines, has anyone ever installed one as the primary source of power for a residence? I am just stasrting to research this, and could use any insights. I have a cabin, and no option for connecting to the grid.

Most of the electricians in that area are not licensed. It is not rquired, and also their is no apprenticeship training courses within 50 miles. Closest union hall training would be Watertown or Utica. I took Votec at Howard G Sackets. and did some apprenticeship in Syracuse and got my licenses when I moved to Virginia. None of the companys I worked for in that area were licensed, and we did most of our work at Kraft foods in Lowville.

I have a customer up on the ridge in Otisco NY who is just starting to research it, also. Will compare notes if he ever gets around to implementing it.
