but wouldn't it only be necessary to run a 3-conductor cable between boxes. You'd run the switch leg and two travellers if you wanted to return the switch leg to the "hot" box... or you'd run the neutral and two travllers if you bring the switch leg out of the "remote" box...???

Those are the ways I always did it.

Hi Roger,

The 3-wire dead-ends are the easiest way of all and can be converted into extending the overall circuit into a 4-way in remod by continuing another 3-wire to the next remote location without having to re-route the switch leg.

Happy New Year.

and that is another good reason to do it that way. :)

And a Happy New Years to you and everyone else too.

If you've got three wires coming in or going out, you can extend to a four-way regardless of if you're on the dead-end end of the 3-way or not.

If you're on the "hot" end of a 3-way, you can feed a second dead-ended 3-way out of that box and replace the present 3-way with a four-way.

Which is another good reason to always use 3 wires for travellers :)

And yet another plus, with all these pluses why would anyone run a 2 conductor cable? ;)

They work for an EMF manufacturing plant and need to make some more?

Here's why: If I'm running a hot-and-neutral pair to every switch box in a lighting circuit, such as kitchen/diningroom/foyer/etc., I'll sometimes run the travelers with them. Let me make a drawing of what I mean.

The Masked Woman

If I am not mistaken I have already begun to get service calls for high milligauss readings. On top of that I had to wire her brand new electric range in the crawl space on the other end of the house so she could burn the chemicals off it. She would run it for 2 to 3 hours at a time for a week then I had to go back and hook it up in the kitchen. She is a wonderful customer but apparently is allergic to everything. The milligauss thing was just a precaution because of her high reaction to everything else. She actually never had a problem with it.

By the way, she congratulated me on the laundry detergent that I use because she wasn't allergic to it. It apparently is the type that is Free of phosphates, etc. She asked if I noticed that she wasn't wearing her mask around me. I said most people don't unless I haven't showered for awhile, then they just run.
