Electronic NEC??

I still use the 2014 "E-book" you can access it from any device with internet access, all you need is your user name and password. Eventually will probably stop using it - have no idea when they may stop supporting it - "Inkling" is the host site, probably depends on the owner of that site to some extent as well. A hard copy is yours as long as you don't destroy it, but the only updates you get for it are to look up errata and TIA's and print them yourself.

A PDF is also yours as long as you don't corrupt or lose the file and as long as you have software that can read the file. Backup copies are a way around losing it. Still may need to look for your own errata and TIA's though.

I still prefer the PDF since I use it on many devices and at times in places with no Internet access. To me it's like always having the hard copy book with you.

I believe the only place to get the pdf is from NFPA. Once you have an account you can log in and download the files to any computer. The problem with sharing it with others is that atop every pages is the owners name. Say I share my pdf with someone-- their copy will have my company name on every page. I guess that is only an issue if someone gets caught with the illegal copy then it can come back to you.

Mike Holt certainly does not need his forum to be a place where pirated copies of the NEC are being downloaded

AFAIK nobody is downloading pirated copies from this site, or even legal copies, about all there is is little snippets here and there that are permissible.

Haven't seen anyone yet ask for a code reference on something and someone copies and pastes the entire NEC and says "it's in there"

There have been many posts in the past on this forum where people provided links to "free" download copies of the NEC and other documents that you need to pay for. What the mod's are saying is don't bother adding them to this thread because they will be removed. :)

What I find galling is paying good money for an electronic copy of the NEC Handbook, and to have it age, without any support from NFPA, into a brick.

Yes, that aggravates me too. We used to get CD's that had every single NFPA code on them. But I doubt if I could get any of them to work now without installing Windows 95, or at least XP.

Actually, no. Once you pay for the PDF, you can have it on as many computers as you want, but at the top it says in very tiny print, Copyright to xxx. I can remember some time ago you were limted to 2 copies.

Well, its nice to know they have changed it to make it easier to use. The security was a real pain, and I think it may have even been limited on how many times you could print something out.
