What is the difference between em lighting being labeled or having a "NL"(night light) and/or battery backup.

A night light is just that......on at night while the rest are off.
An EM light illuminates the path of egress.
A night light can be an EM light.
Most EM lights have a battery back-up or generator back-up.

For a night lite (or any other light) to be an emergency light, it has to have a battery, or be connected to a generator or some other means of providing power in case of a power outage. Usually, they have a marking or labeling saying they're emergency lights, I believe.
