700.12(F) Note that emergency lighting battery packs are referred to as "unit equipment".

Also keep in mind that the fact that something is on the plans does NOT give the installer permission to violate the NEC.

Ok thanks for the article 700.12 (F). So help me understand this, ive seen where theres this room that have both normal and 'emergency' circuits in this room. Basically 2 lights are ran on a normal power and 2 lights are ran on emergency power and they have 2 switches to operate them seperately (one red the other ivory).

From what i read, is the emergency lights suppose to have a battery in them regardless of them being on the seperate emergency circuit?? the lights will come on when the emergency power is on, however im curious as to is this a 'code compliant' installation.

Also im reading 700.17, this sounds like this set up may be ok.

I do not know if the exception to 700.12 (F) applies here. The Em lights are located along a hall that has about 8 offices, the hall has 2 lighting circuits and each office has its own lighting circuit. seems like it would not qualify for the exception unless you count the lighting circuits from the offices since they will have glass doors. Not sure

My understanding is that a battery is not required if the emergency lighting comes on within ten seconds of loss of power.

NFPA 101 & emergency lights

does nfpa 101 address the number of lamps in fluorescent emergency fixtures?
I think it does but don't have access to that info on hand.
