Hi all...
I have a question regarding the emergency board that is fed by a generator. If you look at the NEC 2008, section 700.9(B)(5), it is saying that, to keep emergency wiring separate from all other wiring, the emergency distribution board has to either be a switchboard with separate vertical sections, or a group of individual disconnect switches. Part (c) says that you cannot use a panelboard enclosure.
is this true? Because i see this in many buildings... i'll either see a panelboard, or a distribution board with disconnect switches with no separate vertical sections.. the emergency wiring will be in the same enclosure as the wiring that feeds legally required and optional loads. Is there an exception somewhere that allows this? (this is for NYC... and i checked the amendments to the NEC, there is nothing there that calls for exceptions).
Thanks!
and Happy New Year!
