emergency/exit lighting

I have heard for years that emergency and exit lights are to be fed from a general lighting circuit that is "near by" the egress that is to be illuminated. Does anyone know where this rule is located in the 2005 NEC?

The required emergency powered egress lighting and exit signage must be powered by an emergency system not a legally required standby system so the correct section would be 700.14(F) for unit equipment.

The requirement that these elements must be fed from an emergency power source comes from the building codes. Sections 2702.2.3 and 2702.2.4 are the sections that require this from the 2006 IBC.

I didn't realize I was under the Legally Required Standby Systems when I quoted that. He did say Emergency so you are correct with that statement.
