I have to install exits and emergency lights in a warehouse and need some advice on circuiting. I know it is preferable to use a circuit for the exit/emer lights that is supplying the general lighting in that area. It would be a much easier install if I used separate circuits that is dedicated for just exit and emergency lights. My question is would that be a code violation? Thanks for your help.

In my area, the general practice is to have the exit/emergency on the same circuit with the nightlights, it is done this way so that when the fire marshall comes for an inspection, they can hit one breaker to test the battery back ups without going around with a ladder pushing test buttons. to get your certificate of occupancy, they usually want to inspect when it is dark, they check for enough nightlights though the building, then shut off the breaker and see if emergency lighting is sufficiant.
