Am installing a 30 KW Kohler generator with ATS, Should I pull an equipment ground to the unit from the transfer switch? or bond the neutral at the gen. with gnd rod? or just ground the gen. frame with the grounding electrode? (Raceway is PVC)

Re: EMERGENCY GENERATOR

This would depend on what type of transfer switch you have 3-pole or a 4-pole with the neutral being transfered. The latter being a SDS system would require that the neutral be bonded at the generator and at the panel or TS but if you have only a 3-pole TS then you must isolate the ground bond at the generator and run a seperate grounding conductor. or you will violate 250.30 Exception No. 1: A bonding jumper at both the source and the first disconnecting means shall be permitted where doing so does not establish a parallel path for the grounded circuit conductor.
