I work at a mental hospital and have been asked if all receptacles on the emergency circuit are red in color.
I have seen receptacles identified by red color in a medical / surgical setting.

What is the ruling on red colored emergency power receptalces in office, nursing home, and hospital applications?
Where in the N.E.C. may I find this?

Thanks

Read section 517 in its entirety. From what I can gather, the receptacles, in most cases, must be identified as emergency in some way, but not necessarily by being "red" in color. Red receptacles do "stand out" making them easy to spot, This has become the customary way to identify them in most hospital facilities that I have seen.

In Washington State emergency circuits are identified with orange, red is used for fire alarm.
Don't know if hospitals are using orange recpts or not. I don't get many hospital electricians in my classes, they are mostly operating engineers and not electricians.
