Let op answer your criticism. It just seems we are worried about something outside the scope! I'm all for doing things right. And am proud of it! If you construct a block wall you cut holes for outlets, correct? So why can't you remodel and cut a hole?Why worry about how someone else wants to do their one job?
Nizak wants an emt sleeve, I see no problem with that. My helpful suggestion was to go ahead and land on the box because the tiny bump in the drywall is not going to be noticed and that way he doesn't have to worry about arguing with the inspector.
If you want to bash holes in walls and do a code minimum job that's fine. That does not appear to be what the OP is interested in though.
