EMT vs Fixture

EMT vs Fixture

I beleive 358.12 (5) would prohibit this.

Well then just what box would be ok ?No box would be a problem but why not this box ?
Hang on a minute,do you mean leave the box with emt to go to fixture ? no

I have supported fixtures via EMT from octagon-box covers w/factory KO's. Never an issue, so far.

But is it a violation of 358.12(5)?

Lots of things happen that are a "violation", but not neccessarily a felony.

Thats what I am hoping for on Thursday for a sign inspection, but thats a subject for another thread.
Sorry for the derail, but I liked the answer.

My issue is not the box, the box is just part of a complete description of the installation.
Also, the stem was in the vertical position.

I have two issues here:
1. 358.12(5)
2. 410.16(F)

Typically we will see the EMT raceway eventually come loose and fall out of the fitting. I saw this installation on a job today and wanted to discuss it here. I have also seen in the past other lighting fixtures installed with EMT setscrew fittings as well.

Can one install an exit light fixture on an EMT stem that is supported from a metal 4 inch round box, using an EMT set screw connector into the box as the sole means of support?

I can think of some "no" reasons -

314.23 has a few to start with - (A), (E), (F), AND (H) hint at threaded conduit

Inferences to 110.3(B)

Just thought I'd throw it out there...

May I take it that compression fittings would not make much of a difference to you?
