I have 8 lights in my shop all wired together with the power coming off the breaker box and into the first light, through the others, then down into the switch. I can not get the switch to cut the current for the lights to go off. Somehow I have completed the circuit before I get to the switch because without the switch hooked up the lights still come on when I turn the breaker on. As it sits, I have the hot, neutral, and ground hooked to the first light which supplies the second light and so on.
