energized lights between ceilings

Conducting an inspection of a commercial building, one of my inspectors encountered energized lights above the drop ceiling (part of the original building prior to remodeling). What (if any) are there for codes regarding this type of situation.

None that I know of. At least it would not be addressed by the NEC.

If they were temporary lighting, I think it might fall under Article 590, and would have to be removed. However, I see temporary lighting left in building simply because sometimes they are inaccessible.

Specifically 590.3 Time Constraints.

I don't know that it's an NEC violation either, but at least here in CA I would have the energy code to fall back on.:smile:

If used, NM cable can't be exposed in drop or suspended ceilings. 334.12(A)(2)
