...I think the best solution is

P = W/t

That's not very general. It makes it look like the Power is a constant. That would be similar to asking, "Here is the number of KWH last month. What was the peak demand?" And, of course, you don't know.

I would tend to use an integral

E = Pd(t)
where P is the function P(t)

maybe should make that;
(delta)E = Pd(t)
