I would have a very good shot at that considering that CMP10 is on record as saying the NEC stops at the outlet.

I've installed male plugs onto 3/8 OD MC and fixture whips before, To me the intent is not to have insulation that is prone to dry rot and cracking in a concealed place,combustables, as well as areas that could be used for return air plenums which would pump noxious fumes if a failure would occure.......This method may not meet code but Ive done it...

In all my years, I have not seen an installation as you have described. To me, that is worse then the cords.

Ok... I know for a fact in this mall there are a TON of audio hookups all plugged in above this ceiling. I also feel that the other guys bidding this job would put the outlets in no questions asked. That's what the job IS, to install these receptacles. Now technically, my install is just to install the outlets, nothing else. I thought the NEC does allow a receptacle to be above a suspended ceiling. Is that a legitimate loophole? I mean, the guys putting these low voltage units up there are the ones putting the flex cords up above the ceiling. I just don't see any workaround on this one. And if I stand my ground, say I can't do it because of code, get the inspector involved to ensure the install (no matter who does it) does not put in the outlets to ensure no flex cords are used, I guarantee that would be the last job I'd have to worry about getting from that customer, as well as probably upset these other shops that are also going to bid on it. AND if I do nothing, I lose the job to someone else who WILL put them up...What to do???:-?

I think I'll chat w/ the inspector tomorrow and ask the general question, because in WI we may have amended that section in our COMM 16...

Remember bidding it and getting it inspected are two different things. Put it on the wall of the stock room. Just because that's where the customer wants it doesn't mean that where it needs to go.
