Equipment distance from pool

I am installing a fiber optic illumination source: 150w quartz bulb in enclosed unit, elevated 8"+ above ground level and with line connection electrical feed in conduit. Note has #8 bond connection to the unit.

Question 1: If possible I need to locate the enclosed lighting unit 7' from the pool. Will that distance meet my NEC 1996 requirement and what is the applicable paragraph?

Question 2: Please confirm GFI outlets fall under same rule as regular outlets (80.22(A)(2)?) and must be 10'clearance?

Re: Equipment distance from pool

Not sure about 1996 NEC, but the 2002 states that you must protect all 125 volt receptacles that are located within 20 feet of the inside walls of a pool. If receptacle is supplying pool pump motors and are rated 15 or 20 amp, 120v-240, single phase, then this must also be GFCI protected. Hope I answered the second question.

Note: This relates to permanently installed poos.
