Does anyone know if a NEC code regarding equipment grounding conductors that have been covered with sheetrock mud? I've read 404.9(B)(2), but would'nt the sheetrock mud lessen the chance for a good connection? Would that make an effectively grounded connection? IMHO it would not. Thanks guys.

Could you give a little more detail about what you are describing? Are you talking about a device box in sheetrock and the sheetrockers got a little mud on the green wire?

Why not just whack it with your linesmans to take 99 44/100% of it off? If the rest bothers you, a damp rag will take care of it.

yes, except the green wire is bare copper here, and it was a lot of mud....everywhere.

I hate when they spray oil paint all over the wires. You do have to scrape the wire with a knife to get to the copper. Mud is easy. I don't believe it will hurt the copper if a little mud is on it but I am not a chemist either. :D

So now I suppose all the romex hands need to put a little plastic sleeve over the bare ground conductor so it doesn't get contaminated by drywall compound or paint during construction?

You could market it as a wire condom for safe wiring.:D

Thanks Chris, after inspecting all day sometimes my brain gets a little frizizzled. For some reason I was just thinking "panels" when I read it.

Your welcome, I know the feeling about getting a frizizzled brain after some of the inspections I have been on.:)
