I posed this same question with my AHJ awhile back. According to him, the self contained portable spa is "listed equipment" and not required to be attached to a ebg.

What year NEC are you referring to?

If you take a look at Part IV of Art 680, you will see 680.42. (2008 NEC)
680.42(B) State the bonding of bands/hoops are not required to be bonded as per 680.26. This does not mean the hottub/spa is exempt from the requirements of 680.26.





**Charlies Rules is a very well written statement of how to deal with the NEC. I actually think it works well for all codes.

I've only inspected 1 residential hot tub in the 11 years I've been inspecting.:roll: Failed the install. They never called for a re-inspection.

You don't bond the wood but the epg grid must be installed under the tub decking. Actually the letter of the code requires it to be in the ground under the deck.
