I believe the code is 225.30

A home owner wants to install a EV charger in a detached garage.

Sight unseen there is probably power out to the garage already.

if there is not a large enough sub panel in that garage or just a circuit am I correct to say that a large enough feeder ONLY for the garage and charger would be needed to be run and not just a circuit for the charger because only one circuit or feeder is permitted ?

thank you

NJ is still on the 2017 NEC? The 2020 NEC added an allowance for multiple feeders when they originate at common supply equipment.

If the existing branch circuit is 120V 2-wire, and the EVSE requires a 240V 2-wire circuit, then would a second branch circuit be allowed under 225.30(D)? Since 120V and 240V are different voltages.

Cheers, Wayne

I think you mean 225.30(B). Or (E). (D) only applies to over 2000A.

Edit: 2020 references. (D) would be correct for 2017 and earlier.
